Air Fryer Vegan Jerky (made with marinated tempeh)
Today, I’m thrilled to share a delightful twist on a classic snack: Air Fryer Vegan Jerky made with marinated tempeh. This recipe is a perfect blend of savory flavors and the convenience of using an air fryer, making it a must-try for all snack lovers!
Why Vegan Jerky?
Opting for a plant-based jerky not only caters to vegan diets but also offers a healthier alternative to traditional meat jerky. Tempeh, made from fermented soybeans, packs a protein punch and marries beautifully with the robust flavors of our marinade.
Ingredients
- 1 block of tempeh (about 8 oz)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Tempeh: Slice the tempeh into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick. The thinner the slices, the better the texture of your jerky.
- Marinate: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and liquid smoke if using. Add tempeh slices and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for more flavor.
- Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 200°F (93°C). Place marinated tempeh strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for about 60-70 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tempeh is dry and chewy.
